Frederic Charles MacKinnon Egener
Chuck (Chaley to his family and oldest friends, Chuckles to many) died suddenly in Whitby on June 13, 2016. He was the deeply and dearly loved son of MacEwan and Carol Egener and the cherished and respected brother of Kristen and her husband Darryl Black. Skye and Katheline Black, his adoring nieces, were his heart’s treasures. He is remembered fondly by Mark and Julia Egener, Tom and Margot Hanks and their families.
All who knew Chuck also knew Hayden, a constant and exuberant black and white presence at his side.
Chuck held strong principles that led him through life. Love of family and heritage, care for animal well-being and the environment, social justice, fairness and attention to detail in his professional life were hallmarks of his existence. He was profoundly thoughtful in all pursuits and excelled in the family tradition of well structured written language and the weaving of stories into everyday conversation with those he met.
Chuck’s knowledge of Great Lakes freighters developed early in life and his love of them remained a passion for him; every freighter that was decommissioned was a personal tragedy. Chuck was a private and reflective person, - music, reading and communing with nature were nourishment for his mind and soul.
The Egener family welcomes all who wish to celebrate Chaley’s life to a gathering at their home at 81345 Champlain Blvd, R.R. 5 Goderich on Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm.
If you wish to make a donation in memory of Chuck please consider the following: Adopt-a-Pet Pet Rescue, Lucknow; Menesetung Bridge Association or the Mariners’ Service at Knox Presbyterian Church, Goderich.

Call to him, herons, as slowly you pass
To your roosts in the haunts of the exiled thrushes,
Sing him the song of the green morass;
And the tides that water the reeds and rushes.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
