<div itemprop="description">Peacefully at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich, Ontario, with family by her side. Predeceased by her father and mother, Frederick and Jessie Shouldice of Calgary, her brother, James Shouldice of Calgary and her husband, Dr. James A. F. Stevenson. Joan is survived by her five children, Penny Stevenson, Dr. Skai Stevenson, Alix Stevenson (Dr. Donald Neal), Cate Stevenson and Margot Stevenson (Gordon McCalden) , eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Joan lived an exciting life full of activity and love. She grew up in Calgary, as a member of the community-minded Shouldice family, which played a large part in the social and civic fabric of that city. She had many friends, enjoyed skiing and summers in the Rockies and began a journalistic career. She attended McGill University where she met her future husband, James. They ultimately settled in London Ontario, where James was professor and Dean at UWO. Tragically, Jim died suddenly at the age of 53, leaving Joan to raise her five children. This was accomplished in a house full of love and support. Joan returned to work as the curator of the Medical Museum at University Hospital in London. During this time she greatly contributed to the development and collection of Banting House. Joan will be remembered for her love of travel, gardening, sunsets at Pioneer Park in Bayfield, storytelling and being a great mom and grandmother. Cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Donations in Joan&rsquo;s memory may be made to: The Stevenson Lecture Series, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Western Ontario.</div>
